Kent Bloomer is chief designer of the Bloomer Studio. He received an MFA in sculpture from Yale University after studying physics and architecture at MIT, and has over forty years of experience as an exhibiting sculptor, practicing designer, and professor. Bloomer is the author of two books: Body, Memory and Architecture and The Nature of Ornament, and has taught a class on architectural ornament at Yale for the past thirty-one years. Full bio.
William Jelley, a master craftsman and designer, is the Studio's chief associate. He brings a large depth of knowledge garnered from his work as a furniture designer and fabricator. William has a B.A. in English from Earlham College.
Ioana Barac is the Studio's design associate. She brings experience in architectural design and a strong background in geometry and drawing. Barac studied architecture and urbanism in Bucharest, Romania, and has a summa cum laude B.S. from University of Hartford and a Master of Architecture from Yale University. Barac is the 2003 recipient of the Moulton Andrus Award for Excellence in Art and Architecture.
Marissa Dionne Mead is a job captain and comes to the studio with a background in both design and fabrication. She received a B.Arch. from the University of Notre Dame where she also completed a concentration in Furniture Design. Marissa spent five years in architectural practice prior to joining the studio.
Other members of the Studio are artists and craftsmen from a variety of disciplines who complement the principal designers and participate in research, production and problem-solving. Strong relationships with a network of skilled artisans, sculpture foundries, welding houses, and architectural fabricators further extend the services of the Studio.
Associated Fabricators and Artisans
Alan Tollakson, a stonecarver and an instructor at Kansas City Art Institute, received a B.S. in Art from the University of Wisconsin and an M.F.A. from the University of Kansas. He specializes in architectural and sculptural stone work and has a studio in Emporia, Kansas.
